Blaise and Midori
This is a brother and sister portrait commissioned by the parents. The glass door in front of the figures creates a barrier for the outside, which I've indicated by means of color and sepia tone reflections. The figures fade away and dissolve into drips of paint, as I reference the reality of the paint on canvas. The trompe l'oiel tape does the same, playing back and forth with the “true” reality and the “created”
reality. The water drops and drips add to the visual “screen” and indicate an inhospitable outside environment. The ghost image of the girl's hand reaches through the glass as a wish to escape the inside world.
